Correct Backlight for your New Laptop Screen

Years ago, it was very vital to be aware of the backlight type of your screen because LED and CCFL screens are interchangeable, and these were the screens that existed for laptops. However, new CCFL screens no longer exist because the technology is now obsolete. In fact, the CCFL technology has now been discontinued and there is no manufacturer that uses it in their laptop screens. If you have a laptop that was manufactured after 2012, chance are more than 99.9% that it has an LED screen.

So, what if you have a laptop with a screen with CCFL backlight and you need a replacement? Well, the truth is that finding a working replacement for your screen and the correct backlight will be very difficult. Most retailers dealing in computer screens do not sell or stock laptop screens with CCFL backlights anymore.

Detailed information on CCFL and LED backlight

CCFL is an abbreviation of Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light. It is a backlight method that was used years ago. It is a backlight method that uses a daylight spectre fluorescent tube. It also uses an inverter that powers it on. It is now an outdated backlight method.

LED on the other hand is an abbreviation of Light Emitting Diode. It is a backlight technology that uses a stripe of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). The technology doesn’t use an inverter to power it on like the CCFL technology. Furthermore, LED backlight method doesn’t use a fluorescent tube but instead uses Light Emitting Diodes.

So, basically, there are 2 types of laptop screens available today. There are the LCD-LED backlight screens and the LCD-CCFL backlight screens. These laptop screens are completely not interchangeable. This means that you cannot order for an LCD-LED laptop screen to replace a LCD-CCFL screen because the two are not compatible. If the original laptop screen you want to replace is a LCD-CCFL screen, then you have to replace it with a LCD-CCFL screen. On the same note, if the laptop screen you are replacing is a LCD-LED screen, then you can’t replace it with a LCD-CCFL screen but a LCD-LED screen.

Laptop manufacturers usually tailor their systems for a specific LCD screen. Therefore, it is not possible to install a LED screen into a laptop computer that is outfitted for an LCD screen.  On the same not, you cannot install a CCFL screen into a laptop computer that is outfitted for a LED screen.
